Tucson Tuesday…

When Brian and I first started dating about nine years ago, our first venture out of Phoenix together was a day trip to Tucson. We both had Tuesday’s off at the time and drove down to visit his friend Brad, who has since become a good friend of mine too. We coined the day Tucson Tuesday and although MANY trips to Tucson have been made over the years, I think that was the only time we’ve ever been on a Tuesday :)

Yesterday we went down for the day to visit Brad and his fiance Misty. I finally got to meet Niner the cat (the pilot in me is in love with this name!), although Brad has kept me current via Twit pics.

After lunch we stopped in Kon Tiki for a drink. This is an original tiki bar from the mid-century tiki craze, having opened in 1963 and still packed with mostly original decor!

I was getting a kick out of the 2-page drink menu because it was full of vague descriptions like “this tropical blend will sneak up on you!” I finally settled on a pineapple concoction, if you follow me on Instagram you know pineapple cocktails have been my latest obsession.

The restaurant and bar industry is so fickle, I love finding a place that has survived through the decades. Think of the stories those walls could tell!

    Tucson Tuesday. That’s too cute!

Kon Tiki looks fun with that decor. I noticed some places are either closing down or changing their look. Original/old is mighty fine!!

    Pineapple cocktails= yes!!

My heart skipped a beat when I read the post title… I lived in Tuscon for a few months when I was 4-5 (had my 5th birthday there) and even just reading the word still sends me straight back! I was a little on the young side to enjoy fab vintage Tiki bars though! ;)

I know it’s only 9:18 a.m. but those cocktails look dee-lish! What a cute place! We have a similar retro tiki bar that is amazing here in MPLS. Great patio, festive atmosphere, and huge “bowl” drinks big enough for a table to share that are sometimes on fire. I will def. take you there WHEN you come to MPLS. ;)

What a cool place! And that pineapple drink looks very refreshing! :P

The name Misty, btw, sounds sophisticated and intriguing. I bet David Lynch must have had a Misty in one of his movies, hehe. Niner is cool, too ;).

Ok, time to turn off the computer and study :/, boo!

    Hugs, sweet Lisa! ;D

  5. I love visiting Tucson. I haven’t been there in a while though. This place looks so neat! I am going to have to pay them a visit next time I’m in town. I love tiki themed bars, but because this one has been around since the 60s it makes me love it even more!

    xx Adrian
