A couple of weeks ago we spent the weekend in Palm Springs at The Monkey Tree Hotel. After following them on Instagram for awhile, I was excited to be invited out to check out the place in person- and it did not disappoint! Palm Springs is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix and the weather is pretty much the same, so the heat wasn’t an adjustment for us. Plus I prefer triple digit temperatures for swimming because I’m a wimp like that :)
The hotel was designed in 1960 by Albert Frey, and changed names and owners throughout the years. The current owners, Gary and Kathy Friedle, bought the property in 2015 and moved from New York City to Palm Springs start their new adventure as boutique hotel owners. They restored the hotel to it’s original mid-century design, back to the original name, and reopened it earlier this year. The hotel is a mid-century lovers DREAM, decked out in vintage furniture & decor that was all found around Palm Springs. They did an AMAZING job of restoring the great property and adding some unique touches to the place- like a Scandinavian Spa with a cold plunge (I suprisingly did it!)!
One thing I loved about the hotel is that it’s smaller with only 16 rooms- which made it perfect for a more relaxing getaway, and a more personalized experience. Breakfast is served each morning and included my favorites- homemade scones, granola, fruit, and yogurt. Our room was really spacious with a kitchenette, and bright white with pops of yellow and blue. The sparkling pool had flamingo & donut floats, 60s garage rock on the speakers, and a homemade sangria served each afternoon- it was really fun but without the craziness of the packed pools you find at some of the larger hotels.
Ok, are you sold? I definitely recommend staying here on your next trip to Palm Springs! It’s the kind of hotel you’ll leave actually feeling refreshed, which is kind of the point of getting away right??
Thanks so much for having us Monkey Tree Hotel! We had the best time and can’t wait to come back! This entry was posted in travel and tagged california, mid century architecture, Monkey Tree Hotel, Palm Springs, travel. ← 70s Vibes with Dansko & Dillards Kind of Fall with Dansko Ankle Boots →
