St. John, US Virgin Islands

It’s been a week since our return from St. John, and I finally got around to sorting through 100’s of photos of that amazingly blue Caribbean water. It was our first trip to the Caribbean and our first beach vacation in years.

Honestly, The Virgin Islands have never been on my priority list of places to visit, but the trip was spurred by meeting up with a couple friends that really needed a break from the blistering cold of the east coast winter. And I stand corrected, because it was beautiful and awesome, and there really is something to be said for days relaxing on the beach.

We stayed on St. John which is the smallest of the US Virgin Islands, and is 60% national park. I liked that it wasn’t jam packed with cruise ships and resorts like some of the neighboring islands. We rented a villa and a jeep, which really came in handy with how hilly the island was. The last day we rented a dinghy boat so we could motor around to some beaches that are harder to get to, like the one in the first photo, which was my favorite.

There were so many animals wandering around, like chickens, goats on one of the rockier beaches, donkeys, sea turtles, and giant iguanas right off our balcony. I’m leaving out the fish because I have a fish phobia and can’t help but think they are all gross. Snorkeling is not for me.

I know it’s snowy and cold for most of you, and if it makes you feel better, it’s raining in AZ today too- I’m bundled up drinking coffee dreaming of rum punch and sandy toes. Enjoy your weekend!

This looks so beautiful and COLOURFUL! I’ve visited the Dominican Republic, as a child, but it feels a far cry from St John! Thanks for sharing, now it’s time for me to start saving up! xx
