Keeping this short because things have been crazy this week. But I never got around to do a post on our New York trip, although I shared our day at the beach and happy hour with Chantilly. So here are some Instagram photos from that trip and other snaps from the summer.
Hope you’re having a good week!

I made this cocktail on Memorial Day weekend when we had some friends over for a pool party. It got it’s name because it’s super refreshing and who doesn’t love Outkast’s So Fresh, So Clean?
For each drink, muddle a bunch of cilantro and cucumber in a shaker. Add ice, 1 oz fresh squeezed lime juice, 1 oz of gin, and 1 teaspoon of simple syrup (add more to taste- I don’t like my drinks very sweet but other people were adding more to their’s…) and give it all a good shake. Strain into a glass over ice and add some soda water. Garnish with cilantro and sliced cucumber.
Perfect for summer.

Summertime is here, which means spending as much time in the water as possible. Pool parties, floating down the river, and days at the lake are really the only way to get through these months in the desert.
Summers are spent practically living in a bathing suit, but I feel like that usually is the least fun thing to shop for. Turns out, I was shopping in the wrong places for over-priced, triangles of fabric, not designed to actually fit anyone’s body.
I was recently sent this fun, poppy red suit from Albion Fit. I love the vintage look of the one piece, and the ruffle is added fun. This suit is so well made, it’s nice to know that I can jump in the water and swim around without worrying about my suit coming off. They know how to make a suit to fit our bodies AND look cute! There is fabric and support in all the right places.

They have so many cute suits and comfy workout clothes- some of my other favorites are the pin-up bikini top, the Zig and Zag chevron suit, and blue signature hoodie.
Guess what? The awesome folks at Albion want to give one of YOU your very own bathing suit! They are generously offering one lucky reader the same ruffly, red suit I am wearing. PLUS until Friday, May 17th, you can get $15 off of any purchase over $50 by entering the code LALAFAUXBOIS15 at checkout.

A favorite recent thrift store find was a discarded passport photo camera that we used to fashion a photobooth of sorts at the 4th of July party. It works with peel apart instant film that we can buy at a local camera store.
The camera has two lenses to snap two identical photos at the same time- and if you’ve ever gotten passport photos taken, you know they generally capture you at the worst moment in the most unflattering light.
Brian made a cover for one of the lenses out of a film case lid and card stock. He would cover one of the lenses, take a photo, cover the other lens, and take another photo with the same film. This would give the side-by-side effect of people standing together. Even the mishaps turned out pretty cool!
It happens to be time for me to renew my passport- I wonder if they’d allow me to use one of these photos… :)

Remember July 4th? Yeah, I know it’s already a distant memory, but I want to share some pics from our annual 4th of July party. It got off to a rainy start, which is so rare here in the desert that we really couldn’t complain- and by afternoon the pool weather was back.
Before the party we scoured our books of vintage cocktails for a signature drink of the day and decided on the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. Since the ol’ timey libations are on the short and strong size, they were perfect served up in thrifted punch glasses.
The flyer: (a tribute to Brian’s half Mexican-ness and 1960’s party planning books…)
Yeah, a panda walking by totally crashed the party. So… that happened.
Whew, I’m back from an unintended mini blog break. There was so much going on last week, it was time to take a lil’ break and just enjoy.
BUT… I missed the internet world so now I’m off to catch up on your blogs! What’s new?
