Today we are going to go way back to Christmas- which already seems so long ago! We did a Secret Santa gift exchange amongst Flock Together and I got the sweetest package from Dus! She loaded it up with some good finds- 3 skirts and a pair of blue cords, all wrapped in a cloth bag. I failed at taking a picture of all of them, but they will make their appearances here in time.
This bow print skirt was one of the gifts and it’s absolutely perfect! I love the fit and will always love a good novelty print. Since Dus and I live about a mile apart, she had her mom drop off the package to make it more of a surprise- and it worked because I was so confused as to who was bringing me a package :)
skirt: gift from Dus
sweater & scarf: thrifted
shoes: Nordstrom Last Chance
I have mentioned before how much I have loved being a part of Flock Together the past few months and this was another reason it is so fun. Thanks for the great gifts, Dus!! You should pop on over to Katie’s blog to see how she wore the vintage blouse I gave her, you will fall in love with her amazing, nostalgic style!

We just spent the holiday in Missouri, in the city where Brian’s dad grew up. It was cold and snowy and I was excited to have my first white Christmas in 20 years! I grew up in a snowy place but haven’t celebrated Christmas there in a long time. They have a big, welcoming family and they were so kind to make me vegetarian versions of their meals. Loving cats also seems runs in their genes, which is a good thing :)
I want to share some pictures from the trip- but don’t tell Brian he’s in so many of them… ;)
The night we got back, my friend/former roommate who’s visiting from D.C. was performing stand-up at an open mic night at a local comedy club. I was so nervous because I’ve been to lots of comedy shows but never had a friend up on the stage :) He did awesome and performing comedy takes SO much courage!
I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season! Have you been traveling?

The week before Christmas, Brian’s brother was in town from Nashville so the parents took us on a little getaway to Palm Springs. It’s only a four hour drive from Phoenix and boasts one of the biggest collections of mid-century homes.
This area of California is super windy and is home to the San Gorgonio Wind Farm- a familiar site to anyone who’s ever driven from Phoenix to L.A.
We stayed in Desert Hot Springs at a hotel with a bunch of pools and hot tubs built around the natural hot springs, all varying temperatures. This hotel sports mid century architecture and a lot of… vintage charm.
I was hoping to hit the thrifting jack pot but no such luck. There are so many collectors and dealers in the area, it’s hard for a tourist to strike gold. We visited some beautifully curated vintage shops resembling mid century museums. I should’ve taken more pictures, but I was awestruck by all the amazing furniture in perfect condition (and 4-digit price tags!). If you want to kill a few hours, google Palm Springs mid century architecture for some eye candy.
Close to the California border in Quartzsite, there is a flea market run by the snowbirds (AZ slang for retirees) flocking from the mid west for winter. That is where I had some luck, picking up some Pyrex for my collection that is getting a little out of hand.
One good thing about living in Arizona is the proximity to Southern California destinations for a little weekend trips.
Do you have any favorite spots for mini getaways?

I thought I’d share a peek at the vintage gifts I received this year. A few years ago Brian and I started setting a $100 limit each on Christmas gifts. It helps us be more creative and helps with the gift craziness between both our families. I made out like a champ with some vintage goodies to add to my collections and all my gifts from Brian were used treasures so that’s a win for environmental impact too!
A pull-down school map has been high on my thrifting wishlist and he found this one on Craig’s List for me.
The parents in law found this enamel jewelry set and bag… and, look! There’s a kitty!
I have an ever growing collection of vintage owl goodies and my brother in law found these owl wood holders for the fireplace. We have never used our fireplace and I’m embarrassed to say, it’s a place I never thought of decorating before!
I didn’t make a lot of gifts this year, just for the nephews. We screenprinted this tee for the 2 year old and I made a blanket for the newborn. I’m sure the boys were not thrilled at all with these prezzies, so I guess they were more for the parents :)
