I had to skip last round’s What to Wear but this week we are back with What to Wear: For Halloween! This year I went as Martha Midway who is the mascot of the Arizona State Fair. If you do an image search, she is basically all decked out in pink and has cotton candy hair. Here’s a lil’ video…
I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get the cotton candy to look cute with my wig, which was kind of the reason I wanted to do this costume. Oh well. I just passed out cotton candy at the party I went to. That cone sticking out of my head is supposed to be the handle for the cotton candy.
dress- vintage ’80s, estate sale

All of the festivities were last weekend for me- Halloween night was actually spent in class. First stop was a friend’s housewarming party and then went to our other friend’s annual Halloween shin-dig and danced the night away. Here’s some shots from the night-
How amazing are these Yo Gabba Gabba costumes our friends made??
I made salted brownies with ghosts (from the tutorial on A Beautiful Mess) for the party.
These polaroids were all snapped by Brian. Sunday there was a charity event at the restaurant I work at so I recreated the French outfit from Tour de Fat.
Oh, and guess what?! As I was heading out to class last night our first trick or treater of the night stopped by and it was the FIRST TIME EVER (as in- my whole life!) I was home to give candy to a trick or treater! Her mom said we should get a picture of this milestone moment :)
Make sure you check out the other What to Wear posts- maybe we’ll get some ideas for what to be next year!
Nicole: Gypsy in Jasper
Marcia: Like a Small Fire
Sondra: Abhaya Yoga
Adriana: Horses of Ares
Dorien: Bodacious Thought
Lisa: Not Ladylike
Sarah: Exploring Woods

Awe, what a great outfit! You look adorable! ;D No trick or treaters stopped by my house :/; same thing last year. I guess we’re in a location that’s too dark, plus I don’t think kids want to go up the stairs to know at our door, ha.
Happy Thursday, Lisa! ;D
You’re too cute, and those yo gabba gabba costumes are pretty amazing!

I had no idea what you were! I honestly thought you were a unicorn too. But being from the South, that wonderful pink lady never made her way down here.
But that is just the cutest costume!
I love your costume! It’s so cute!
Hah glad you documented your first trick or treater! We live in an apartment so we don’t get any.

Probably because I too am an Arizona transplant (California-Rhode Island-Maine-California-AZ), I knew immediately who you were and LOVED IT! Very creative and cute! You make a lovely Martha Midway, and now I want cotton candy. :)
Yay! I was surprised how many AZ people had never seen her before :) Thanks!
aaah SUCH an amazing costume!! What a creative and fun idea!! I didn’t know the state fair had a mascot but it’s a really great one & you did it perfectly! looks like a super fun halloween party, your friends costumes def were great & what… all these years w/ never being home for trick or treaters? that is crazy! Glad you caught one & so cute her mom said you should get a pic : ) btw you hair has gotten so long, it’s gorgeous!! what do you put in it? i need to get mine to look at cute & wavy.
Thank you! I feel like my hair looks super messy all the time, but I guess we’re our own worse critic :) I’ve recently started using this Paul Mitchell curly hair shampoo that my friend in hair school gave me as a gift and trying not to be so reliant on heating tools!
shoot this is the very first time i’ve seen one of your replies so now i am checking the “notify me of followup comments” option..” dangit i bet i’ve missed a bunch of good replies all this time! & just say no to heating tools!! haha i have happily not used any in many yrs, sure my hair would prob look better but eh, sleep is more important!
That’s an awesome costume…very clever!
And congrats on the Trick or Treater!
