this dress is a survivor…

This dress is a total bad ass. I know, I know, it doesn’t look like it. It’s pink, cotton, and detailed with embroidered flowers, but deep down it’s like my bad ass grandma that still paints her own house at 78.

Not only has it been around for 50+ years, but this is the dress that barely survived the bike wreck. I took it to my favorite tailor and she fixed it right up for me.

Last fall, I won a gift certificate to Butter Toast Boutique in a raffle and this is one of the dresses I bought with it. I usually have an aversion to pink but I feel like this dress might be changing my mind, and it’s perfectly light weight for our brutal summers.

I always feel guilty when something has been around for half a century, swapping owners & bouncing between thrift stores, garage sales, and vintage shops, and my (or my cat’s) grubby paws destroy it. Like the mint condition vintage couches we had when we adopted two kittens, may they rest in peace (the couches, not the kittens- they have grown up to be furniture destroying cats!)…

haha ah cats! Glad they didn’t take to your dress & glad this dress was mendable after your accident, the little embroidery is so sweet (but of course mostly glad you were even more mendable!). this dress is lovely and you look beautiful in it! & I also had an aversion to pink… does it have to do w/ your blond hair? I think that’s what causes me to stay away from pink/baby blue.

Soooooooooooo pretty……..Love it! It fits you perfectly! :) I am so glad she was able to repair it after the crash. If I owned this dress I would wear it every day! :) And, your hair is getting long! It looks so pretty! :)

As Amanda pointed out, that dress fits perfectly! It was clearly meant to live with you. And those shoes…holy mackerel. I love bows on feet.

So cute! And I have to say I felt a wave of sympathy nausea over your couches. But. Glad you could save the dress. :)

I actually posted a photo of my bubblegum pink vintage dress yesterday, too. Mine is a little frilly on top though, not in a good way..

    Happy weekend!

Love this post! Its like a mini-love letter to vintage. Or at the very least a solid I appreciate you letter. :) The dress is pretty perfect and looks as if it was made for you! PS – my kittens are in the process of trying their best to destroy our couch.

  6. Gorgeous! And I love this post – it sums up how I feel about my favourite vintage pieces perfectly.

It is a beautiful dress indeed! I feel the same way about pink. Mmm, now that I think about it, I don’t think I have a single piece of clothing in this color.

And I can’t believe your grandma paints her house herself; now that’s really bad ass! ;D

I’m glad you made it clear you were talking about the furniture and not the cats when you said “may they rest in peace”, haha.

Have a great week, Lisa! ;D

Your grandmother still paints her own house? – That is badass! Hoping I’m still going strong at that age. Definitely more power to her.

The dress, the shoes – you just know how to put together the most perfect little ensembles. As much as I always want to hate pink…I always have a soft spot in my heart for it. You look gorgeous Lisa!
