my “Dallas” dress…

80's dress

You may remember Dallas as that TV show your parents watched in the 80’s. I remember it as that show I jokingly ordered from Netflix the summer I was unemployed and ended up watching all 13 seasons in the following years. In my defense, I was always knitting or doing some sort of crafting simultaneously. Why am I talking about Dallas? This dress totally reminds me of something one of the Ewing ladies would wear.

I thrifted this 80’s dress a few months ago and finally (as part of my Spring Break goals!) hemmed it to a more wearable length for tastes. I should have taken a before photo of the super-unflattering shin length.

80's dress

One time Linda Gray, one of the stars of Dallas, ate at the restaurant I work in. She wasn’t our first celebrity, we get our fair share of musicians and athletes. She was however, the first celebrity that I ever recognized.

She was seriously so sweet (and beautiful!) and seemed a little surprised a 20-something (umm, at the time…) was a fan of Dallas. She even surprised me by mailing autographed photos to me at the restaurant the following week, which of course, catapulted her to my favorite character on the show ;)

I thrifted this jacket earlier in the week, upon a quick glance thinking it was vintage. It’s not, but I still think I like the green color and shape. What do you think?

Do you have any unexpected celebrity encounter stories?

Those shoes are amazing, and I think the dress looks so cute! Celebrity encounter: Richard Simmons, gay aerobics icon. True.

Girl, I LOVE the dress. It totally looks like it actually came at that length. Good job!
As for celebrity encounters….well, due to working with actors for my job it makes seeing them 100% null and void. I’m currently working on a film with a actor who I had plastered all over my wall as a teen and now as an adult I deal with daily. It’s so freaking weird. And it also makes me sad that I’m not longer excited to “see” a celebrity.
Oh, and THOSE SHOES! I want them!!!

  5. amazing find on that dress- I loove the pattern & the color is great too. Great length w/ the hem too, good job! My to-hem pile is still overflowing. I’ve never met a celebrity and haven’t much cared to before, except that your encounter sounds so fun! Love that coat as well, great color & cuts.

Haha, I can’t believe you watched all seasons of Dallas! :O

That was so sweet of Linda Gray!

And needless to say, your dress is awesome! And so are the shoes :p.

That dress is amazing! You are lucky that you know how to sew! I have about 10 dresses that need to be hemmed at the moment and I have no idea how to fix them! I am thinking about asking for a sewing machine for xmas so I can tackle them! I love those shoes, too. Want them!! AND, we just watched like a bizillion seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. There was some knitting, but mostly just lazy tv watching. I though getting rid of cable would solve my bad tv addiction, but netflix has taken over! Happy first day of spring darlin! xo

I’m with you on the no cable thing, Netflix is a blessing and a curse! I’m a total amateur sewer and wish I had more confidence to tackle big projects!

  10. I love the color of that dress. I wish I knew how to work a sewing machine! I find so many things at the thrift store that I have to pass up because I hate the length!! :/ NO FAIR!!
