Knit & Purl…

You guys, I used to knit a lot. Like watch countless back-to-back episodes of Six Feet Under so I could gain a few more inches on my project. Now I don’t have much more time (or focus) to work on more than a simple cowl or scarf, and I pulled this top out of my closet thinking “did I really make that?”.

Knitting was my first craft love and it changed my way of thinking. For some reason, it didn’t register until my 20s that people are rarely “naturally good” at something and that most things can be learned with some practice. I was determined to learn how to knit and after some practice, felt I could take on almost any project. My confidence grew and I realized that with some determination I could learn how to do a lot of the things I wished I knew how.

sweater: knit by me from this pattern (yearrrrs ago!)
dress: F21
boots: vintage
scarf: thrifted
earrings: Moorea Seal

I don’t know what I’m doing in that last picture- maybe celebrating that it’s Friday?

What are your plans this weekend? Besides working, I will be chained to my computer working on some final projects for school. Eek!

I have some exciting cleaning planned :) Wow, that’s really amazing. I have to learn to knit some day. I started learning crochet, but I don’t have enough time to do it, so I forget how it works when I stop :)

I love love love your top! Can I have a skirt with that leaf pattern? lol

  6. What a gorgeous top! I can easily crochet and have patience for it.. but with knitting it’s just the basics.. I can’t wrap my head around making complicated things. I’ve always admired the knit designs. I thought you bought that top.

Thanks! I always admire crochet! I thought it’d be an easy transition but I get so frustrated with not being fast :)

I’m in awe of your knitting skills, especially as an over-excited knitting novice myself! I love what you say about realising that these skills are learnt not innate. I’m so bad at spatial awareness which makes all the crafts I do challenging, but I love overcoming that and seeing my ideas become reality!

Wow! Live the top. I used to spend hours knitting. I feel guilty I haven’t done it in a long time. It is so time consuming though.

I can’t believe you knit that, it’s so beautiful! I love knitting but haven’t put as much effort into it lately because of work and life but I need to stop making excuses and start again!
