I’m down with hand-me-downs…

lalafauxbois

Okay guys, I think it’s time we let hand-me-downs off the hook. I mean really, what’s better than getting new clothes without the decision making and temptations of shopping? Maybe that’s the older sister side of me talking because I don’t have bad memories of leftover sibling duds. There’s not much I love more than getting handed a box of clothes that someone didn’t want anymore.

Maybe it’s my love of 2nd hand clothes, or maybe my expression screams “someone please dress me!” but I tend to be the go-to when friends are cleaning out their closets (does that mean I can start to blame others for my bulging wardrobe??). Apparently this gift of mine knows no technological boundaries because recently I had the good luck to receive a box from my friend through blogging- Amanda.

She has some of the best thrifting luck I’ve seen and has collections to die for. This summer she was paring down her vintage wares and I had the good fortune of inheriting a box of clothing, belts, a couple bags and some nick-nacks. Are you kidding me? I couldn’t believe my luck- it was like months of good thrifting days all arriving on my doorstep! This vintage skirt was in the box and has been one of my favorite outfit staples this summer.

Erin wrote a post back in August on her love of hand-me-downs that I whole-heartedly agree with (and check out that adorable outfit!).

vintage skirt- gift from Amanda!
top- thrifted
shoes- ebay
necklace- birthday gift from a couple years ago

Oh gosh, I know I have said this before, but I LOVE handmedowns! I couldn’t tell you how many of the most treasured in my closet came from people I know… or how many items in my mother’s (or grandmothers!) closets I can’t wait to be passed down to me!! It’s just one of those lovely situations where everyone wins. People part with things they dont use, people gain stuff they like and didn’t have to pay for, and treasure stays out of the landfill.
    I love it.
    So much.

Looks like Amanda sent you some sweet duds! Loving the bright colours on the skirt, totally perfect for some summer sun.

You say it perfectly! I actually meant to link to that post you wrote and forgot when I sat down to write this- but I just added it in :)

My friend Nest used to get hand-me-downs from her neighbor, who was an older, more fashionable and popular girl at our school. I was never more jealous than when Nest would open a new giant box of perfect early 2000s fashion, fresh from her neighbor.
I never got hand-me-downs, because I am a giant with tiny friends.

So happy this cute skirt found a new home!! I LOVE it on you! It was meant to be!! I actually want your measurements — I have a few dresses but I want to make sure they will fit before I send them! You are the cutest!

  5. Hand me downs are THE BEST! The skirt is really pretty you totally lucked out! I actually recently asked my friend if she wanted some stuff that reminded me of her (aka it was tie-dyed) when I was cleaning out my closet, but I never know if people are going to get OFFENDED at my asking if they want my clothes. Hello, they are free! But, I obviously have a huge love for thrifted and second hand clothing so maybe my mind is warped!
Hope you’re having a great day!
    xo Hannah

I too love hand me downs but I’m built on a different scale to most of my friends. Some of my favourite clothes have come from larger clothes swaps though.
    This skirt is pretty amazing!

Super cute outfit, I really love the top! Hand me downs are amazing, every time my older cousin cleans out her closet I look forward to digging through a huge bag of clothes (for free) and even tho we’re not quite the same size I always find ones the work!
