I adore: FRANKIE FOUR

So, now that it’s officially summer, let’s talk bathing suits.

Frankie Four vintage bathing suits

I wish I could remember how I stumbled upon Frankie Four, but let’s just say it’s bathing suit heaven for us vintage lovers! I’ve been searching for the perfect vintage suit for years, with no luck. I rarely find them and the fit has never been right. Angela custom makes vintage style suits TO YOUR MEASUREMENTS out of vintage fabric! How cool is that?

Angela is a dream to work with! She works with you on the style and fabric- I fell in love with the minty colored bikini (below, left) and she made me one similar, but with a halter top. I don’t think I’ve ever had a suit so well made, and having a custom fit is the icing on the cake!

But what about the 2nd Hand Pledge, you ask?

Right before The Pledge I ordered a few suits from different online stores with the plan to keep only one, but none of them fit right so I relinquished myself to donning old beach gear this season. I almost made an exception in the pledge guidelines that said I could by a bathing suit :)

When I found the Frankie Four website I was so excited to see the perfect suit, I tried every justification for buying it. “It’s handmade of vintage fabric!”, I told myself. “It’s almost just like buying new underwear!”, I thought. Brian saw my struggles and later told me he wanted to get it for me as an early birthday present- my birthday is at the end of August and swim season is almost over by that point! I found my loophole and I feel good knowing we supported a handmade artist!

This is NOT a sponsored post! I spent SO long looking for the perfect bathing suit and I wanted to share the awesomeness in case you are too!

i have a really really weak spot for bathing suits. like really weak. i LOVE them so much and i love wearing them. i have always wanted a pair of super low 60’s style surfer bikini bottoms and they are super hard to find, i am sure she could make me one! oh man! i love the one you are getting made, the print is soo cute. what a great birthday present!

Thanks for sharing! I have been looking for a vintage swimsuit for ages and these look adorable. Not sure if I will be in swimsuit condition when summer comes to Australia since I will be popping out a baby 2 months before but maybe for one of these I can try.

So, I am totally checking this out, because I got the suit from ModCloth and it looked HORRIBLE. And it was not high quality at all. The vinage suits I find/sell are SO much better, of course, hah, none of them fit me. ;) It was my first purchase from them and I am really disappointed! Hooray to finding the perfect suit girl. That is amazing! I bet you look gorgeous in it! I want every bathing suit pictured!! I hope you have a great weekend! xoxoxo

Oh, wow! I didn’t know there was someone who custom made swimsuits, that’s awesome! And I think you should’ve never felt you were violating your pledge! A bathing suit is indeed almost as underwear.

Can you believe I haven’t worn a bathing suit for over 20 years! :O I am so aware of my very imperfect body that I haven’t had the courage to wear it. I did buy one a couple of years ago, but it’s still in its original packaging :/.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Lisa! :D

  9. I def think using vintage material is the perfect loophole, it is secondhand after all, just repurposed, or upcycled actually since the suits are amazing & random old fabric def is not. Such an awesome shop, I’m glad you shared & that’s great you found your perfect suit, it def can be a challenge.

This is SO cool! And you shouldn’t feel guilty at all. Any woman knows it’s ridiculously hard to find that perfect suit, and supporting a handmade business is almost just like buying something used anyway. Isn’t the point to stay away from “malls”? :)
