The Monkey Tree Hotel in Palm Springs

A couple of weeks ago we spent the weekend in Palm Springs at The Monkey Tree Hotel. After following them on Instagram for awhile, I was excited to be invited out to check out the place in person- and it did not disappoint! Palm Springs is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix and the weather is pretty much the same, so the heat wasn’t an adjustment for us. Plus I prefer triple digit temperatures for swimming because I’m a wimp like that :)

The hotel was designed in 1960 by Albert Frey, and changed names and owners throughout the years. The current owners, Gary and Kathy Friedle, bought the property in 2015 and moved from New York City to Palm Springs start their new adventure as boutique hotel owners. They restored the hotel to it’s original mid-century design, back to the original name, and reopened it earlier this year. The hotel is a mid-century lovers DREAM, decked out in vintage furniture & decor that was all found around Palm Springs. They did an AMAZING job of restoring the great property and adding some unique touches to the place- like a Scandinavian Spa with a cold plunge (I suprisingly did it!)!

One thing I loved about the hotel is that it’s smaller with only 16 rooms- which made it perfect for a more relaxing getaway, and a more personalized experience. Breakfast is served each morning and included my favorites- homemade scones, granola, fruit, and yogurt. Our room was really spacious with a kitchenette, and bright white with pops of yellow and blue. The sparkling pool had flamingo & donut floats, 60s garage rock on the speakers, and a homemade sangria served each afternoon- it was really fun but without the craziness of the packed pools you find at some of the larger hotels.

Ok, are you sold? I definitely recommend staying here on your next trip to Palm Springs! It’s the kind of hotel you’ll leave actually feeling refreshed, which is kind of the point of getting away right??

Thanks so much for having us Monkey Tree Hotel! We had the best time and can’t wait to come back!

St. John, US Virgin Islands

It’s been a week since our return from St. John, and I finally got around to sorting through 100’s of photos of that amazingly blue Caribbean water. It was our first trip to the Caribbean and our first beach vacation in years.

Los Angeles Instagram Photos

Sometimes sorting through vacation photos for the blog can be so daunting I find myself just trying to hide from my computer and the internet for days. But I always regret when I don’t post about a vacation- the best part of blogging is being able to look back the highlights over the years. So instead of putting it off until it’s a distant memory, I decided to summarize our week in LA with my phone pics, that you may have seen if you follow me on Instagram.

Visiting Athens and Hydra Greece

Today I’m filling in for Hannah from The Braided Bandit while she’s vacationing in Italy- lucky lady! She has a few travel-obsessed blogger buds talking about a favorite trip over the next couple weeks, so make sure you follow along. I know I’m looking forward to adding to my list of must see places. Although it’s never easy for me to pick a favorite vacation, this was definitely up there as one of the best, and going through the photos sure sparked the wanderlust!

Oregon Coast

Here’s some snapshots from our recent trip up to Oregon. You can see why we always try to schedule our trips up there in July, it’s the most beautiful place to be in the summer (in my humble opinion). This was my in-laws first visit to the northwest and I had so much fun showing off my home state. I feel so lucky to be from such an amazing, green, creative, and beautiful place and seeing others excitement for it made it extra fun. They were really blown away by the forests.

We spent a few days in Eugene, headed to the coast for a couple of days- on what may have been the most perfect day ever on the Oregon Coast, I showed them where I grew up, and wandered around Portland for a day. We also celebrated the double retirement of mine and Brian’s moms- a big congrats to them! :)
